Siemens employee Jackie Bray mentioned in State of the Union Address

Jackie Bray, a Kings Mountain, N.C. woman who works at Siemens Energy as a process operator, was mentioned in President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address Tuesday night. Bray landed the high-tech job through a career retraining program, according to The Shelby Star.

“I want every American looking to have the same opportunity as Jackie did,” President Obama said after sharing the story of Bray’s new career at the Siemens Charlotte Energy Hub.

Bray watched the address with Michelle Obama and was invited to attend the speech in Washington as a guest of the first lady and Jill Biden, according to a White House press release.

Bray is a single mother and last January, she was laid off from her job as a high-speed packaging mechanic.  She then enrolled at Central Piedmont Community College to prepare for Siemens pre-hiring test. After finishing the course and passing the test, Bray was hired by Siemens in August of last year.

In the role of process operator, Bray will be allowed to combine her machinist background with new skills she learned at Siemens which includes laser training, robotics training, penetrant inspection training and product orientation, according to The Shelby Star.

The Siemens Charlotte Energy Hub provides engineering, manufacturing, servicing and other support functions related to the supply of Siemen’s gas and steam turbines and generators to markets around the world.
