Electroindustry confidence index declines in May

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association’s Electroindustry Business Confidence Index (EBCI) for current conditions in North America declined in May. The index fell from 66.7 in April to 55.9, but continued to show signs of improvement in the business environment by remaining above the 50-point mark. Confidence in future business conditions also declined in May but remained in positive territory. The EBCI for North American conditions six months hence retreated in May to 76.5 from 80.6 in April.

The survey measures the degree of change in current North American conditions. Panelists are asked to report intensity of change on a scale ranging from -5 (deteriorated significantly) through 0 (unchanged) to +5 (improved significantly).
