Motor shipments drop slightly in second quarter

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association’s Motors Shipments Index decreased by 7.2% on a quarter-to-quarter basis during the second quarter of 2013. Still, the index is up 6.8% on a year-over-year basis and registered the second highest reading in the history of the series, according to NEMA. Fractional horsepower motors continue to be the driving segment of growth in the index. Inflation adjusted shipments of fractional horsepower motors showed a gain of 13.0%, while integral  horsepower motors dipped 1.9% compared to the same period last year.
