November EA preview: Online instruction manuals

When attempting to install or repair a piece of equipment, it’s best not to fly blind. That’s where instruction manuals come in. Normally available as a booklet packaged with the product, manufacturers are now providing them online in the form of a PDF. “Manual Override,” the Fast Forward column in November EA will delve into the process of constructing these manuals and how the internet is allowing for more options than ever to get the most out of a machine. “How to” sites like Yahoo! Answers, online electronic repair communities like iFixit, and repair videos on YouTube will also be discussed.
