Des Moines Area Community College receives $5,000 from Alliant Energy for wind power program

Des Moines Area Community College has received $5,000 from Alliant Energy, a Madison, Wis.-based energy provider. The grant will be used to purchase safety equipment for the Des Moines, Ill. college’s Wind Turbine Technician program.

The two-year program offers hands-on safety training at the college’s Ankeny and Carroll campuses. Alliant Energy owns and operates wind farms in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, totaling 344 wind turbines.

According to The Des Moines Register, wind energy is a major part of Iowa’s energy production. A report released last week stated that 27% of the energy generated in Iowa comes from wind.
