Engineers Week, Feb. 21-27

DiscoverE (formerly the National Engineers Week Foundation) will host the annual Engineers Week this year from February 21-27. It marks the 65th anniversary of the event. A tradition that dates back to 1951, the week includes Global Day of the Engineer and the foundation’s Girl Day.

DiscoverE aims to sustain and grow the engineering profession and STEM program involvement through outreach, education, celebration, and volunteering initiatives. Its community and stakeholders provide resources and turnkey programs for employees and volunteers, support strong workforce diversity initiatives, and promote “positive visibility” within the engineering and technology communities, including college students and the general public. The DiscoverE community comprises a working coalition of over 100 organizations.

Global Day of the Engineer looks to connect the international community to celebrate the accomplishments of engineers, give students opportunities to experience engineering firsthand, and share engineering innovations.

‘Girl Day’ implements powerful messaging by successful women from engineering fields to encourage young girls to become role models. The efforts of DiscoverE parallel a countrywide determination to stimulate involvement in the engineering profession and related educational programs.

Sponsors this year include 3M, Boeing, and ExxonMobil, alongside longtime partners such as the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the National Society of Professional Engineers, and SWE (Society of Women Engineers).
