Be Kind, Rewind

Winding expert wins Sailor of the Week award

A U.S. Navy cadet won Sailor of the Week at Naval Station Mayport (Jacksonville, Fla.) last week. Jason Sieh, Electricians Mate 3rd Class (EM3), is a 23 year old who has motor rewind expertise. Ask anyone—this has become something of a rarity in engineering circles. Thank goodness for dedicated military personnel.

Sieh, who is from Winfield, Iowa, had to learn the trade thoroughly, because it’s his main job at NS Mayport. He has been in the service for three and a half years. The best advice he’s ever received? “Have your multi meter on you at all or times or else you might as well just be a Machinist’s Mate.”—Anonymous

EM3 Sieh stands out as a 3rd class petty officer because he takes the extra initiative to rise above his peers, per the Mayport website. He has also assumed the responsibilities and Leading Divisional Repair Parts petty officer and as the Assistant Training petty officer. He accomplishes his collateral duties to the same degree of professionalism as he dedicates to his day-to-day mission working in the USS Iwo Jima’s Motor Rewind Shop.
