Entrepreneurs Give Back

Rommel Electric owner donates $5.5 million

Owner David Rommel of Rommel Electric Co., based in Eden, Maryland, has achieved quite a lot since taking the reins from his father in 1976. He now owns engineering and construction companies with his surname, not to mention a Harley-Davidson outfit and a string of ACE hardware stores. Hence, the time to give back seems ideal as Dave and his wife, Patsy, are donating $5.5 million to Salisbury University on Maryland’s eastern shore.

The university’s president Janet Dudley-Eshbach announced the gift April 25th, which will benefit SU’s new Center for Entrepreneurship at the Plaza Gallery Building in downtown Salisbury and support other future activities of the campus and the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business. The center is expected to be open by 2020, aimed to be a collaborative community for students and business leaders with the nexus of entrepreneurship. In addition to the highly popularized shared workspace, it will include six offices and six individual spaces for winners of student entrepreneurship competitions.

Mr. Rommel told the Salisbury Independent that he hopes the center can help contribute to people keeping their businesses local. Rommel grew up in Salisbury, a mere six and a half miles from Rommel Electric’s roots in Eden. The electric company specializes in electrical design and engineering, design build, and medium voltage and line work. It also provides industrial electric applications, combined with airport lighting and control and hospital and commercial experience.

Not only can you go home, you can stay there, cultivate and flourish there, enabling you to bolster that home’s future.
