HVACR’s Cutting Edge

AHR Expo invites Innovation Awards entries

For a 14th year, the International Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Exposition (AHR Expo) is calling for entries for its annual Innovation Awards Competition. The competition recognizes “advanced solutions to ever-changing need” in the HVACR industry in ten product categories: building automation; cooling; green building; heating; indoor air quality; plumbing; refrigeration; software; tools and instruments; and ventilation. Special attention is given to products, systems and technologies that “set elevated standards for the industry’s responsible and effective use of its resources.”

The highly coveted awards typically inspire hundreds of entries from exhibitors scheduled for the upcoming AHR Expo. The EXPO, billed as the “World’s Largest HVACR Marketplace,” will take place January 22-24, 2018 at Chicago’s McCormick Place, where winners will be announced, along with a “Product of the Year” award. Winners from 2017 included Danfoss, Nidec, and Carrier for its dual-stage relief economizer (see video below):

Winning entries are selected by members of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) with more than 20 years of professional engineering experience, who rate them for application innovation, value and market impact.  Last year’s software category was won by Nidec Motor Corporation/U.S. Motors’ Rescue Select Programming App, a Cloud-based application accessible by any smartphone or compatible wi-fi enabled device that can help service contractors identify horsepower rating, operating parameters and other important data, in order to program an in-stock replacement motor to mimic an original performance profile.

The AHR Expo is jointly produced by ASHRAE, the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) and the International Exposition Company (IEC). Look for coverage of this year’s event in the March 2018 issue of Electrical Apparatus.
