In a shocking announcement, CWIEME Chicago has been canceled this year

One of the most widely attended trade shows in the electromechanical industry will not take place this year as originally scheduled. CWIEME’s Chicago event, which was slated to run from October 2-4 at Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill., this year, has been cancelled, showrunners ITE group plc announced Monday in a press release.

While the group calls it a postponement, that might be a difficult sell to planned attendees and exhibitors. The former were given relatively short notice, given that the show was coming up in less than two months. The latter—some of whom told Electrical Apparatus they are still unsure about refunds going forward—will have to recalibrate after much preparation for an event many utilize as a major networking and customer-driven hub.

A leading exhibition for coil winding, electric motor and transformer manufacturing technologies, CWIEME has long been home to a number of businesses that both advertise and are covered within the pages of Electrical Apparatus.

The press release contained the following statements, much of which focus on improvements to be made for the 2019 show.

“ITE group plc has announced that the US edition of CWIEME, the world’s largest coil winding, electric motor and transformer manufacturing exhibition portfolio will be undergoing a significant investment program and it has been decided to postpone CWIEME Chicago until 16-18 September 2019 to reach its full potential,” the statement opens, citing new management and developing investments, along with the interest of stakeholders, as an impetus behind the decision. “Under new management, the world class exhibition group has committed to a major investment into the Chicago show, bringing it to the high standards that customers expect from the CWIEME brand. This comes after a strategic review of the CWIEME Global Series, involving months of research into the markets, the wider industry and its various stakeholders.”

“Chicago is one of the world’s leading electric motor, transformer and generator markets and we are delighted to introduce new initiatives which will reposition the US edition of CWIEME as the leading gathering point for the electric design and manufacturing industries,” says Alison Jackson, Managing Director of the CWIEME Global Series.”

Also according to the release, CWIEME will announce some exciting new plans this fall, including:

  • A US team who are in the market to focus on buyer acquisition, content and sales
  • Investment in local research
  • A new steering committee to ensure the event develops in line with local market needs
  • A relaunch of the US content programme and regional meet ups across the Americas
  • A new social programme including events starting the weekend before the event opens
  • A new visitor program
  • Additional logistics support
