North by Northwest

NWMS buys Visalia Electric to expand into its fourth state

Northwest Motor Service, a motor service provider and distributor with locations in Washington, Oregon, and Alaska, just expanded its presence in the region further with the acquisition of Visalia Electric Motor, the northern California shop of the town with the same name.

The Visalia shop was formerly owned by Magnetech Industrial Services, the Massillon, Ohio-based service provider.

Northwest is headquartered in Longview, Washington, not to be confused with the Northwest Electric Motor Company of Schiller Park, Illinois.

This addition to NWMS’s portfolio provides immediate access to renewable energy, petrochemical, mining and agricultural customers in the American Southwest and adds capabilities to its existing business, said a statement on Northwest’s LinkedIn page.

Spencer Wiggins, President and CEO is excited about the future in California. “Electric motors use about 45% of the world’s electricity – they’re everywhere. The addition of this facility, staff and customer base will allow us to continue disrupting the industrial services space and our “Best in Class” EASA accredited service group is excited to begin integrating this very capable team with our organization. In addition to services, Visalia will allow continued expansion of our industry 4.0 platform and new product offerings that include electric motors, variable frequency drives, power distribution gear and mechanical drive products.”

With a full suite of field services, electrical, mechanical and controls engineers and service centers, Northwest Motor now has a fourth state in which to expand its business. NWMS has been lauded for its training programs in the past, such as an effort started in 2017 to help young adults struggling to raise children. This initiative was two-fold, as it both addressed the skills gap and supported local youth.
