Distributor M and A’s

Wajax, Wesco, Power Grid Component and Sonepar make major moves

Lots of action from distributors this month! Here’s a rundown.

Wajax acquires NorthPoint TS.  In a big move for NorthPoint Technical services, the company has been acquired for $18 million. Wajax’s announcement mentions NorthPoint’s skilled workforce and technical expertise as key incentives for the buy. “We are extremely pleased to welcome NorthPoint and its team of dedicated professionals to Wajax,” said Mark Foote, President and Chief Executive Officer of Wajax. “The addition of NorthPoint gives our ERS platform strengthened national coverage, complementing the expanded footprint we acquired with Groupe Delom in 2018 and allowing us to better serve our customers. We continue to view ERS as a critical part of our growth strategy as it is expected to enhance our EBITDA margins, requires a lower total working capital investment when compared to our distribution businesses and further enhances our overall value proposition to new and existing customers.”(

Wesco merges with Anixter, agreeing to a $4.5 billion transaction,to “Create a Premier Electrical and Data Communications Distribution and Supply Chain Services Company,”  The combination will be the largest North American company in the industry.

Power Grid Components, which manufactures and supplies electric utility products, has bought Royal Switchgear, a manufacturer of high voltage products since 1914 and which itself was part of Anixter from 1968 to 1983.

Sonepar is combining its Brook Electrical and Viking Electric divisions.  According to the company, “The combined organization creates a stronger network in the Midwest, providing customers with even better access to services and solutions.”  Sonepar USA’s 2018 industrial products sales of $2.9 billion placed it No. 12 on Industrial Distribution’s 2019 Big 50 List.
