AHR 2020

Sights and sounds from this week’s HVAC/R convention in Orlando

The International Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigerating Exposition (AHR) held its annual convention in Orlando this week. Electrical Apparatus‘ Managing Editor Selena Cotte and Advertising Director Naomi Clark were both in attendance this year at booth 9204—and hustling to and fro on the trade show floor. Editor’s Note: Be sure to look for Selena’s full AHR show report in the upcoming March issue of EA!

Day one saw the convention in full swing, with weather in the seventies outside, and plenty of climate-controlled commodities in the building. While the usual array of these products made its presence known; one distinct emergence this year was the markets of automation and smart buildings. Phoenix Contact, for example, displayed some of its latest solutions for both building automation and intelligent buildings (pictured). The German company is a manufacturer of industrial automation, interconnection, and interface solutions and employs over 16,000. Its U.S. headquarters are located in Middletown, Pennsylvania.

Photos below include the FB Coils and Assemblies booth, a Grenada, MS manufacturer of heat exchangers and connections; Super Duty Fans of Pilot Point, TX, makers of “The Smarter Industrial Ceiling Fan”; Welsh manufacturer Invertek Drives, makers of VFDs; and Bromic Industrial, an Australian company that manufactures heaters of all shapes and sizes.

Both days one and two featured the live conversation of the AHR Podcast Pavilions. These conveniently located squares showcased some of the industry’s up-and-coming ideas, from popular podcasters like Mike Mayberry (HVAC Refer Guy), Tersh Blissett (Service Business Mastery) and The HVAC Jerks. On Day 2, Bryan Orr and Andrew Greaves hosted a special edition of their HVAC School Podcast, recording live for the AHR audience and inviting special guests to talk about trends and issues in the industry.
