Aiken To Be Caught

Wanted: vandals who’ve been shooting electrical junction boxes in S.C.

We like to avoid name-calling, but some things are just downright idiotic. Like the vandalism reported over the past week in a South Carolina utility co-op’s coverage area, where bullet holes were found in multiple electrical junction boxes. The “vandalism”—a term fits the bill but doesn’t nearly grasp the full danger of this one—has happened three times in five days.

Aiken Electric, the company whose equipment was damaged August 21 and 23 in at least two separate incidents, is acting swiftly with incentives to catch the perpetrator(s). It offered a $2,500 reward Monday for valuable information on the matter in a Facebook post:

“AEC SYSTEM INFORMATION

The outages that occurred August 21 and 23 near Eagle Road, Charnwood Forest Circle, Bellmeade Drive and Paddock Club Parkway (Cedar Creek) were due to the vandalism of two three-phase junction boxes. In an effort to prevent future vandalism of Aiken Electric equipment, we are offering a reward of $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator(s).

Anyone with details regarding these incidents or the identity or whereabouts of the perpetrators is urged to contact Aiken County Sheriff’s Department at 803-648-6811.”

We discovered the story via Tyria Goines of WRDW (Augusta, Ga.) August 26. As mentioned above, anyone with details regarding these incidents or the identity or whereabouts of the perpetrators is urged to contact Aiken County Sheriff’s Department at 803-648-6811.
