Jay Industrial Flexes Muscle

The Birmingham-based service and manufacturing business has acquired a service center in North Alabama.

Jay Industrial Repair, the Birmingham, Ala., service center and manufacturing outfit, has acquired Flanders Electric Motor Service, Inc.’s Muscle Shoals Regional Service Center, the company announced in an August 31 news release on its website.

The purchase reportedly further increases Jay Industrial’s market share in the North Alabama, Tennessee and North Mississippi territories.

This acquisition also allows JIR to increase motor and generator repair capacity, the company stated. Company executives also plan to assemble a field service team based out of Muscle Shoals—the northern Alabama town of about 15,000 made famous for its recording studios in the 1960s and 70s.

Perhaps most encouraging is that Jay Industrial said it continues to grow its operation in the Shoals area by adding roughly 20 skilled jobs to the local economy and has plans to add 10 more in 2021.

“The acquisition is expected to result in greater efficiencies and significantly increase our market share. Our clients will continue to receive the same high-quality electric motor repair which they have come to expect,” Joel McMahon, CEO and owner of Jay Industrial said in the news release.

The integration of both companies will take place over the next few weeks, said McMahon, who has owned Jay Industrial Repair for over 25 years and grown it to be one of the largest electric motor and generator repair companies in the U.S., partially by streamlining its focus to quality repair and maintenance solutions for industrial electric machines and turbine equipment.
