WEFTEC Incoming

Your monthly virtual conference alert features excellent diversity

WEFTEC, like so many of its trade show contemporaries, is fully virtual this year. The conference airs October 5-9 and is available to non-members for a $60 registration fee, with free options for students as well as free viewing available for the opening, awards, and closing sessions. It was originally scheduled to take place in New Orleans in 2020.

WEFTEC Connect is the theme this year, offering a mixture of real-time, interactive, scheduled learning events, more than 400 on-demand technical presentations, and many different opportunities to network with each other, presenters, and exhibitors. This content will be available for a full year following the online show. Perhaps most compelling, however, is the pointed diversity of WEFTEC’s chosen keynote speakers. The lineup features a number of pioneering minorities and women steeped in leadership and community impact experience:

October 5 at 11:00 a.m. – High-impact speaker René Rodriguez will use applied behavioral neuroscience to teach water professionals how to reframe adversity and harness the power of courage to become more thoughtful, engaged, and adaptable leaders during normal times and in moments of crisis.

October 7 at 3:00 p.m. – As the first woman of color to lead the Girl Scouts of the USA and CEO of the National Council on Aging, Anna Maria Chávez is one of the world’s top experts on women’s leadership, youth development, and aging as well as a dedicated advocate for helping others find opportunity and success across every stage of life.

October 9 at 2:30 p.m. – This conversation will explore health issues in the water sector with Dr. Andrew Sanderson, WEF Chief Medical Officer, and Walt Marlowe, WEF Executive Director. Dr. Sanderson works to ensure that the industry’s health guidance is consistent, protective of workers, and reflects the knowledge of the wastewater sector.

October 9 at 3:45 p.m. – Henrik Skovby and Hamdi Abdi, UNLEASH and Zenia Tata, Chief Impact Officer, The XPRIZE Foundation will share their experiences and insights about how the water sector can use innovation to go above and beyond the norm to help the world and shape the future.
